Teaching mathematics requires engaging all students in interactive and exciting lessons. Important factors of engaging all students are involving the students in the learning process, and teaching to their interests by getting to know the students and their diverse nature. To increase interest in mathematics, lessons should have a concrete importance from the students’ point of view. In order to do this, teachers should outline the lesson’s relevancy and real world applications. I will provide my students with the necessary elements they need to learn, and teach to my students’ abilities, but also challenge them to make their own discoveries. Lessons should hold great value, and students should know that their learning and efforts are held with the utmost respect. Teachers interact with a diverse population of students, and lessons should be differentiated to meet the needs and learning styles of all students. Differentiated instruction can include, but is not limited to the use of manipulatives, technology, and additional resources. By integrating a variety of instructional approaches, resources, technology, and activities, teachers are able to meet the needs of all students, students will be involved in the learning process, and students will provide an eagerness to learn. Last but not least, it is essential that students take an active role in their learning process through participation and hands-on learning. mathematics is about asking questions, and being a problem solver, so I would motivate students to not be afraid to make mistakes. I will always encourage my students to reach their full potential, and to see the value in their efforts. Oftentimes students have a negative connotation towards mathematics and I want to be the change that motivates all of my students to foster a lifelong love for learning and a love for mathematics through influential and engaging lessons. With this philosophy of teaching mathematics statement in mind, I will teach the generations of the future to reach their highest potential of success.
